Can You Tame a Warden in Minecraft?

Can wardens join the player's side in Minecraft?

by Marc Magrini

One of the newest additions to Minecraft is the deadly warden, a mob that can deal incredible damage to players. Introduced in The Wild Update, wardens can easily take out anyone they come across even on lower difficulties. Killing one won’t lead to a vast number of unique rewards either, so the idea of purposely seeking wardens out might seem a bit counterproductive. But anyone familiar with Minecraft’s various mobs might want to know if it’s possible to tame a warden, turning it from an enemy into an ally.

Can You Tame a Warden in Minecraft?

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to tame wardens. Upon spawning, wardens are hostile to any mob they detect. Even though that means they could theoretically be used against other foes such as zombies and skeletons, it also means that wardens must be killed or avoided in order to survive an encounter with them. Most players might end up dead long before they can use a warden against other foes effectively due to its natural aggression. This may change in an upcoming patch, as Minecraft is still being updated, but it’s fair to assume that wardens – like most hostile mobs – will remain untamable for the forseeable future.

There are ways to avoid wardens without having to tame them. Wardens are blind, so they will not chase players that sneak around or otherwise muffle their noises. If a warden goes some time without finding anything, it will burrow underground and no longer be active. Additionally, wardens can only be spawned through sculk shriekers. These blocks can be mined by the player, making it possible to clear an area of them and prevent any more wardens from spawning. Without good weapons, armor, or tools, avoiding these powerful mobs is the only way you’ll be able to survive them.

Minecraft is available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and mobile devices.
